Posiblemente en ninguna otra figura se puede observar tan claramente el cambio de mentalidad del hombre medieval al hombre del renacimiento como en la figura de la Muerte. Esta es mi tesis, para argumentarla me voy a basar en tres personificaciones de la Muerte que encontramos en el S.XV: el personaje macabro y burlesco de la danza general que proviene de la tradición popular y representa la cosmovisión medieval cristiana; la Muerte que se confunde con la enamorada de los poetas cultos de cancionero, que aparece asociada al amor cortés y tendrá una larga pervivencia posterior y las diferentes personificaciones de las coplas manriqueñas, en especial la que viene a buscar a don Rodrigo, que ya es fruto de una nueva mentalidad en la que lo terrenal tiene una clara importancia.
